Fraser Island = Winner - Key Ingredient

Let me start off by saying that Fraser Island is known for the fact that it is a sand island, made completely of sand. And it is also known for its dingo population. There is a camping area that is completely surrounded by a fence, protecting those inside, from the things on the outside. Made me a bit leary about the entire experience.

So we started off early in the morning and took a ferry over to the island.

We were unable to go to part of the island because there had been a forest fire a week or two before our visit. There were trees down blocking the path but more importantly, there wasn’t anything to see except burnt trees.

We explored the island on a large bus/4WD vehicle. Since the landscape is always changing they need these massive vehicles to navigate the terraine/sand.

First stop was a lake that had completely clear water. And it was warm so the kids were able to go for a swim. The sand was really fine and it felt really nice.

After a drive we had lunch at one of the island resorts. Nice buffet.

More driving along the beach, this time. There were a couple of stops but I stayed on the bus since Adlai had fallen asleep. We did see a shipwreck.

Lilly's awesome photography:

A cool formation in the landscape:

And back to the resort for some ice cream and post cards.

Last stop was a little walk through a rain forest on the island. Our tour guide explained the different types of trees and the significance of this different environment. Lilly followed him around. She thought he was cool.

And finally back to the bus and the ferry. When we got dropped off by our car we needed to eat dinner. We didn’t want to go anywhere so we found a restaurant right next to our car. Pennie and Alan actually got a table and Seth and I went back to change with the kids.

Home and bed for us!

And remember those dingos? Yeah, we didn’t see any.
