My Hobby

Anyone that knows anything about me probably knows I like doing the whole scrapbook thing.  It's fun.  It's creative.  There are a lot of cute things out there.  It's just something I really like doing.  And so, being the silly person that I am, I joined a party plan company that sells scrapbook stuff (and card making and other paper crafting type thingies).  We do the regular Free Make and Take Demonstration party type thing at people's homes and we also do workshops which are very awesome.  Even if I don't make money of it (which is difficult because I keep buying stuff), it's been worth it.

BECAUSE if you know anything about the scrapbooking world you may have heard of Tim Holtz.  And I got to meet him.  Not that I was the only one or anything, but I got to do a workshop with him.

So, it went down like this:

If you had made so much money in sales you would win an automatic bid to be able to do a workshop with Timmy.  Well, I just chuckled because I'm having a very slow start to this business stuff as no one I associate with does scrapbooking.  Craziness, I know.  There were then leftover spots for grabs and they were going to be based on a lottery draw.  If you got your minimum you got a ticket and if you did a few other things you could get another ticket.  I got one ticket.  I received an email saying that I had the opportunity to be in it, here is the price of the workshop, do I want to be placed in the lottery.  The cost was a little high but it was TIM!  I put my name in, not worrying about it, I never win these things.

But I already told you I saw him so you already know that I was able to get win a ticket.  That wasn't very exciting.  On top of the cost of the workshop I had to buy a bunch of supplies.  Tim Holtz did a workshop based on his techniques but using all products that we sell.  It was costing a lot more than I had planned but at least I only had to travel into the city.  Some people FLEW into Melbourne for the weekend to go to this thing.

So there was a catered lunch included in the cost and we had a some awards passed out (I didn't get any of those).  Then the big workshop.  Lots of information about the products.  The person beside me kept pulling out the cord to our extension cord so my heat gun kept turning off.  She didn't make me a happy camper.  But it was cool.  And then Timmy signed some stuff for us.  And a huge bunch of consultants got together for dinner afterwards.  All in all, a good day.

Some pictures to go with the many words -

The tags we were sort of doing.  These were his examples but he told us the techniques and told us to do whatever we wanted.

My mug that he would later sign!

He gave us instructions through a slide show and then walked around with encouragements and comments.

Tim likes the work I did:

My clean hands.

I gave my camera to some manager guy and didn't realize he was going to take a bunch of pictures.  There were a few that I deleted immediately.

Tim and I!

PS check out www.kaszazz.com to see what sorts of products we sell and workshops we offer.  Just for fun!

A Little Art

I didn't mention the art work from the Coburg Carnivale.  I'm assuming a few knitting groups did the work because there was a lot of work shown.  Keep in mind that it rained throughout the week.  The stuff still looked good.  It was a lot of fun to see how the benches and the street lamps were decorated.

Of course, I didn't take pictures of the benches and streetlamps but they were covered in knitted rainbows and flowers.  It was awesome!  I wish I had more time to explore knitting.  I can do two kinds of scarfs and that is about it.  Someday, when I have more time . . .  giggle.

More Books!

I can't resist taking this kids picture in a library.  Don't know why.  Maybe we just spend a lot of time here.

Basically Adlai just grabs a handful of books and pulls them down.  He laughs and moves on to the next shelf as soon as I start picking them up so I can't grab him.  He's clever like that.

Carnivale!

Lilly's school sets up a booth for the Coburg Carnivale.  It sounds all fancy but it is held in the pedestrian walk area between two blocks.  It's not very big but it is entertaining.  Two of the Coburg PS bands played - the rock band and the percussion band.  There were several booths but I didn't see any of them.  There were also some roving entertainers.  I was a little creeped out by 5 women walking around with beards just stopping and posing every so often.  I wish I had gotten a picture but I spent most of my time waiting in line for Lilly to get her face painted.

They did have a circus group there showing people how to hula hoop.  Lilly chose to do the spinning the hoop on the ground kind of work.

Something Different

Friday is a waiting game.  Adlai and I drop Seth off at work and then Lilly off at school by 9.  We don't have playgroup until noonish.  The library doesn't open until 10:00 with story time at 10:30 but Adlai usually naps a little after 10.  So we do what we can.

We finally had nice weather so I took Adlai to the zoo!  I wanted to check out some new exhibits and I figured if jr would walk around for a while he would wear himself out and take a nice long nap.

So, off we went!

The first animals we came upon were the meerkats.  A mother had her babies outside in the open so all the other meerkats were going crazy keeping an eye out for anything that might eat the babies.  There were even meerkats doing the lookout thing on the highest thing they could find.  It was very cute but I have to imagine a bit stressful for these little guys.

At one point they all scattered, babies included.  I don't know what they saw but they were quite frightened.

Would love to capture Adlai looking at a seal in the underwater walkway.  But I did get Adlai and a big empty water tank.

This guy must have been waiting for a trainer.  He was sitting all pretty.

The walkway to the new area.

He may have wanted to climb up for a cuddle.  The big guy was a bit slippery, Adlai didn't get very far.

Next time I will actually take pictures of more animals we see.  Maybe.

On the way back to the train Adlai fell asleep.  Mission accomplished!

Welcome to Mommyhood

Adlai woke up at 11:30 last night with a cough of a seal.  It was unfortunate.  I was just going to bed.  I knew what that cough meant.  I went in to check on Adlai and he was struggling.  I expected the cough.  I didn't expect him not to be able to breath.

Yes, I panicked.  I didn't immediately call 000 or anything.  That's 9-1-1 in Oz speak.  I had my comfy black pants on so I didn't consider that to be wearing pjs so I just slipped my shoes on.  My friend Heather P. knows exactly the pair of pants I'm talking about.  [oh my, I just realized how long I've owned those pants!]  I just slipped on some sandals and grabbed some blankets and walked out the door.  Don't worry, Seth had Adlai, I didn't just leave him.

ER, Saturday night, midnight.  You never know what you will get.  It didn't seem too bad.  I walked in and was able to get into triage right away.  By then Adlai was breathing better, he was wheezing but it didn't take so much effort.  The nurse confirmed my thoughts - croup.

I went to the waiting room to wait to see the doctor.  The worst movie ever came on the television.  About some woman who kills her abusive husband, gets sent to jail by a crazy judge and the inmates strip at a local bar for work detail.  There was a lot of nudity.  It was awkward to say the least with the crowd in the waiting room.

I had to wait for about an hour and a half.  Luckily the nurse was able to get Adlai a steroid to bring the swelling in his airways down.  By the time we saw the doctor Adlai was ready to rock and roll.  The first thing the doctor says is "So, this is your first baby, huh?"  Um, no, our first just wasn't in a situation where she was introduced to all the wonderful germs that Adlai has been lucky to eat or lick.  Or maybe she just thought I was really young.

And so Adlai and I were home about 2:30.  He went right back to sleep and the rest of the night was uneventful.  He even slept until 8:30.  What a champ!

Self Arrest?

Is it possible to arrest one's self?  Adlai tried.  He locked himself up and everything.

Ok, maybe he just accidentally pulled the clothes basket over himself.  But it's cute that he still fits inside.

I promise we didn't hold the basket down while I ran to get a camera.  We just let his confusion go for a few moments.

My Kids Could Make Me Money!

I should take these guys on the road.  Lilly on her guitar, Adlai dancing.

They might not get money for talent but there has to be something for the cuteness factor!

If Life Gives You Lemons . . .

I was very excited that we got a lemon on our lemon tree!

Adlai was, too.

Imagine my surprise when I noticed that we had two!

So far I've only used the zest from one to make Blueberry Yogurt Cupcakes.  Yum!  Yum!
